ClimateBridge Cluster

The research project

Through the ClimateBridge cluster at the Helmholtz Institute for Climate Service Science (HICSS) — a collaboration between GERICS and the University of Hamburg — we explore this approach in two contrasting but interconnected regions: Harburg County (Germany) and the Brazilian Amazon.

Despite their differences, both regions face shared challenges such as land use conflicts, biodiversity threats, and the increasing impact of climate extremes. One critical gap in both contexts is the limited access to usable climate information, which hinders informed decision-making at the local level.

The cluster hosts two projects aimed at addressing these challenges:

BeChange Project: Focuses on participatory adaptation planning with rural stakeholders in Germany and Brazil, co-developing strategies and digital tools for locally grounded climate resilience.

ClimateConnect Project: Investigates how different forms of climate knowledge can be meaningfully connected and translated across actors and contexts, fostering more inclusive and effective climate services.

Together, these projects aim to bridge the gap between scientific data and local realities, empowering communities to shape their own climate-resilient futures through dialogue, collaboration, and innovation.

By combining local perspectives with global collaboration, ClimateBridge contributes to a more just and sustainable approach to climate adaptation and mitigation across diverse landscapes.
