Geografisch post/kolonial (Geographically post/colonial). How the World is Created from Maps and Images
The research project
Geography, as a highly visual science that uses drawings, images, and maps to represent its content, has played and continues to play an important role in creating and shaping societal discourses about and conceptions of the world. The connection between visual materials and societal images of the world is addressed in the exhibition “geographisch post/kolonial” (“geographically post/colonial”). It will be shown how the forms of representation have changed over the centuries and how they still unfold their effectiveness in political and societal ideas today. In the process, post/colonial continuities and ruptures become apparent, reflected in shifts in scholarly research topics, academic biographies, university teaching, and theoretical concepts.
