Teaching

My research and teaching is interdisciplinary and focuses primarily on land, planning, black geographies, sustainable development, mobility and issues of difference. I have a Master of Science in Geography from the University of the Witwatersrand and have been working as a researcher and project manager for more than 7 years. My work has been published in various formats, including peer-reviewed journals, research reports, policy briefs and open access media platforms. In my ongoing PhD research, I am investigating how land is understood and used by rural communities and traditional authorities and how this intersects with land use policy and the broader issue of land and land reform in South Africa.

My teaching approach links postcolonial and decolonial studies with questions of land in relation to property (rights) and racialized difference, urban development, climate research and sustainable development. Students are familiarized with the coloniality of land (and the regulatory instruments associated with it), its constant renewal and the possibilities of rethinking it, and learn to deal with it.
