I studied topography and geography in Bogotá (Colombia) and then completed my master’s degree in social economy in Buenos Aires (Argentina). I am currently a PhD researcher in Hamburg and part of the KGGU working group. As a student and teacher, I was the driving force behind the critical geography collectives PanGea and GeoRaizAL.
My interest in South American geography has led me to travel and get to know its landscapes, as well as listen to various stories, from the highlands of the Cordillera Andina to the plains of the Pampas. From these places, I have learned to think about and feel inequality, as well as the power emanating from globalization and external and internal colonialism. Equally, I have seen the search for alternatives by small-scale farming families; their struggles for land, their connection to the territory and environmental goods, farmers’ markets, communal cooking, and popular neighborhoods. In all these places, physiography, settlement, power, nature, society, and economy converge in an integrated geography. Therefore, I mainly focus on approaches such as political economy, political ecology, and decoloniality. Based on these insights and perspectives, I have conducted teaching and research work in Colombia on the following topics: land grabbing, territorial conflicts, territorial planning for peace, peasant territories, legal geography, urban-rural relations, and agrarian and food geography.
