I studied Geography at the Universidad de los Andes in Venezuela, developing a particular interest for the terrestrial environment and its fascinating, multi-layered complexity, in which water is an essential functional component. During this time, I was also fascinated by academic choral music. At the same university, I completed a Master’s degree in Watershed Management and realized that watersheds are not only ‘atomic units’ of hydrology, but also structurally and functionally complex biophysical-landscape units, geoecological natural spaces, and ideal planning units for anthropogenic purposes. In my dissertation at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, I successfully combined approaches and methods of modern Physical Geography to comprehensively assess a tropical highland watershed. Since then, I have focused on the hydrogeography of watersheds, particularly tropical highland watersheds, requiring a careful combination of reductionism and holism in analysis. In the era of global change, I have also dealt with the effects of global warming and climate variability on hydrogeographic processes and dynamics at both mesoscale and local levels. My academic experience has also led me to engage with environmental geography and spatial planning, complementing my integrative and multi-objective approach to studying watersheds from a hydrogeographic perspective.
Through science, I have learned to be proactive, creative, direct, responsible, and intuitive. Through music, I have become sensitive, dreamy, emotional, tolerant, disciplined, and socially permeable.
