From Tübingen (diploma) – with a stopover in Rio de Janeiro – via Innsbruck (dissertation), I ended up at the Institute of Geography in Hamburg together with part of the research group. The main interest of my research and teaching lies in the interweaving of power (inequality) relations both at the global level (relations between the Global South and the Global North) and in the very concrete struggles and conflicts at the local level (struggles for land, water, coal, etc.). Theoretically and conceptually, I mainly deal with different approaches of political ecology and postcolonial theories and ask how certain power structures – also along categories such as gender, class and racist structures – are inscribed and reproduced in social relations to nature, and which possibilities of a fundamental socio-ecological transformation exist and can be conceived. In addition to concepts of discourse and dispositive theory, approaches of a critical, intersectional and decolonial geography are at the forefront of my geography-making.
