ClimateBridge cluster

Das Forschungsprojekt

Within the ClimateBridge cluster at the Helmholtz Institute for Climate Service Research (HICSS) – a collaboration between GERICS and the University of Hamburg – we investigate this approach in two contrasting but interconnected regions: the Harburg district (Germany) and the Brazilian Amazon region.

Despite their differences, both regions face common challenges such as land-use conflicts, threats to biodiversity, and the increasing impacts of climate extremes. A critical gap in both contexts is limited access to actionable climate information, which hinders informed decision-making at the local level.

Within the cluster, two projects are being carried out that address these challenges:

BeChange project: Focuses on participatory adaptation planning with rural actors in Germany and Brazil and jointly develops strategies and digital tools for locally anchored climate resilience.

ClimateConnect project: Investigates how different forms of climate knowledge can be meaningfully connected and translated across actors and contexts to promote more inclusive and effective climate services.

Together, these projects aim to bridge the gap between scientific data and local realities and empower communities to shape their own climate-resilient future through dialogue, collaboration, and innovation.

By combining local perspectives with global collaboration, ClimateBridge contributes to a more equitable and sustainable approach to climate adaptation and mitigation across diverse landscapes.
